Crossing a lobe of Lake Dubay
This moderately challenging route features a variety of Central Wisconsin landscapes from glimpses of the Wisconsin River and Lake Dubay, to forests, flats, hills, and farmlands.
The route starts through fairly flat woodlands and farm fields leaving from Stevens Point, but after passing by Lake Dubay the elevation increases toward Mosinee and Wausau.
Leaving Wausau/Weston, the course flattens out again until passing through the terminal morraine region of eastern Marathon/Western Shawano & Waupaca counties. The open terrain heading eastbound toward Wittenberg provides the potential to fly along with a prevailing west wind, but the same features present a challenge when the wind is from the east.
The route passes along the morraine between Wittenberg and Iola, and this section features its share of rolling hills, alternating between woodland and farmland landscapes.
Returning to Stevens Point through Amherst offers more farmlands alternating with forests and gentle rollers across the Custer Ridge. The route again flattens after passing the ridge into Plover until arriving back at the start in Stevens Point.
